Organic Farming
The principal methods of organic farming include crop rotation, green manures and compost, biological pest control, and mechanical cultivation. Organic farming promotes the use of crop rotations and cover crops, and encourages balanced host/predator relationships. Organic residues and nutrients produced on the farm are recycled back to the soil. Cover crops and composted manure are used to maintain soil organic matter and fertility.
● CROP ROTATION: It is the technique to grow various kind of crops in the same area, according to the different seasons, in a sequential manner.
● GREEN MANURE: It refers to the dying plants that are uprooted and turned into the soil to make them act as a nutrient for the soil to increase its quality.
● BIOLOGICAL PEST CONTROL: With this method, we use living organisms to control pests with or without the use of chemicals.
● COMPOST: Highly rich in nutrients, it is a recycled organic matter used as a fertilizer in the agricultural farms.
MSS Organic Farms - Organic Jaggery
MSS Organic Farms and their farmers taking care from growing of sugar cane and cultivation field. In sugar cane cultivation maximum used only natural organic fertilizers like cow dung, cow manure and other natural manure. The difference between organic and commercial jaggery making is mainly in clarification process. In organic jaggery making process used only organic clarificants and little bit of lime to decrease the acidity of juice. So organic jaggery colour having dark when compare with commercial jaggery.
MSS Organic Farms - Manufacturing Process
Jaggery making is a simple process comprising crushing of sugarcane for juice extraction, filtration and boiling of juice for concentration and then cooling and solidifying to give jaggery blocks. The juice is extracted in conventional crusher; this is then filtered and boiled in shallow iron pans. During boiling natural vegetable items like Bhindi (Lady finger) are added to clean the juice and the extraneous matter is constantly removed to give a bright golden colour. The boiled juice is then left to cool in iron/ Aluminum pots to form the jaggery blocks or powder.
Organic Land
- Thirty-six months with no inputs like synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or genetically modified seeds must pass before a field is organically certified.
Cultivation
- During the cultivation, sugarcane should be procured from organic farms and should not use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides.For the cultivation use cow dung , cow manure and other natural manure
Harvesting
- Harvesting of sugarcane is carried out at 10 to 18 months stage, depending upon the planting time and crop maturity. Hand knives, cutting blade or hand axes are used for manual harvesting.
Juice Extraction
- Sugar cane juice is extracted from manually harvested high sucrose content sugar cane sticks using a crushing machine
Filteration & Boiling
(Natural Vegetable)
- During boiling, natural vegetable items like Bhindi (Lady finger) are added to clean the juice and the extraneous matter is constantly removed to give a bright golden colour.
Cooling & Packing
- The boiled juice is then left to cool in iron/ Aluminum pots to form either the jaggery blocks or jaggery powder. After cooling, jaggery products will be packed according to the requirement
Storage
- Packed products will be sent to the storage. According to the order, the packed products will be despatched the customers.

Crop
The crop is cultivated in organic land and showing its excellent growth. There is no way to use synthetic chemicals, pesticides and other chemicals. Only using cow dung, cow manure and other natural manure to grow the sugarcane crop.
Sugarcane Stick
After harvesting sugarcane is taken from the cultivated field and transported to the factory. Using crushing machine to extract the sugarcane juice
Organic Jaggery
Sugarcane juice is extracted from sugarcane sticks and boiled. The boiling sugarcane juice is cleaned by using natural vegetable items like Bhindi (Lady finger) to bring up all the dirt and impurities.
Organic Jaggery Process
Boiling
The men skilfully and rhythmically stir the liquid, not allowing it to become lumpy or burnt. After about two hours of continuous stirring the thickened juice into another dry pan sitting on the mud floor.
Organic Jaggery Powder
With a clean long-handled wooden press they press down the jaggery powder section after section, moving around the vat. An hour of this and the powdery raw cane sugar is deftly shifted to bags.
Jaggery Cubes
Raw sugarcane juice is boiled and water content is evaporated and reaches a semi solid stage. Then it is poured over small moulds or to a big tray and then shaped into big size balls.

At the end of the day, jaggery is still sugar and should only be used very sparingly.
